What's even sadder is that some Marshall fans acted as though it was the right thing to do. I guess rules are rules and the cops were just doing their jobs, but whoever made those rules... Well I guess I can't continue that sentence.

Yeah. Luckily, a friend of mine got me a ticket, so I was able to get in.

come on guys....you can't just post part of what happened last season. This wasn't a case of the police just being A-holes.
Where is 5-0 PD when we need him??? He could possibly shed some light on this. One of my best friends that I go to church with works for the Marshall police Dept. They were asking people to not stand at a gate because it was an ENTRANCE/EXIT area. Fire codes don't allow for people to stand at a door or gate. That's true in Marshall, in Longview, and probably everywhere in the free world. The only way someone would have been told they could be arrested would be by refusal to move. Not only was a gate being blocked....it's also an issue of crowd control. There is no way a small handful of officers could control a large group of people standing at a fence. It's begging for trouble for too many people to be standing in too small of an area. Lobo Stadium and Rose Stadium have accommodations for overflow crowds and standing room only (on the grassy hills, the bowl, or behind the scoreboard). Maverick Stadium doesn't have that accomodation. Most stadiums don't. We have 9,000 seats.....and that's all we have. Marshall sold out the Longview, Henderson, and Kilgore games. Fans from Marshall and all of the above 3 schools were turned away in each of those games. Do we need more seating? Sure....when you see that stat.....but generally speaking, seating is never a problem on the visitor's side. That was the first time Henderson brought more than 500 ppl since we've played them. Longview and Hallsville are the only games we GENERALLY have sellout issues with. Do you think they would let 3-4,000 people sit in Lobo Colesium for a basketball game? no.....of course not. Would they open the doors going outside and let ppl watch? no....of course not. I wish every one that wanted to see every game could always have a seat, but I learned wayyyy back in the old days of 12-5A, it required some forethought and planning to get tickets to certain games. Would you drive to Lufkin "in hopes" of getting a ticket?? There are only so many tickets sold in Lufkin, playoff games in Corsicana..... I've known ppl from Marshall camping out for Marshall/Longview tickets. It happens...it's a big game. And until recently.....ppl weren't allowed in "the bowl" of Lobo Stadium. If they didn't get it....they just didn't get in. If you didn't have a ticket, you stood out behind the scoreboard to watch the game......where there isn't an exit to be blocked. I'm sorry if some ppl got turned away last season. It will probably be the same thing again this season. Get your ticket early....and you won't have anything to worry about. And if I didn't have a ticket in my hand of a BIG game.... I don't think I would be driving to the stadium "in hopes" of getting a ticket. |

well said Mavchamp...
the only thing that I have to add is that when I was in high school and we beat Marshall in Marshall I was told that I would go to jail if I jumped the rail after the game...I wouldn't blame the cops one bit for throwing my immature @#%$ in jail back then... |

For the record, when officers work security at the games they are enforcing school rules and regulations. The only reason they would give a flip if someone was standing around the gate would be if the powers at Marshall ISD asked them to enforce that rule. Do you honestly think Marshall PD cares if football fans stood around the stadium fences?

i admit i was ticked off when my dad didnt get....the thing that was upsetting is there was plenty of room down below the band for the ppl that got turned away.

No....i don't think they care if they stand around a fence..... unless that fence in an entrance/exit.
And I agree clisle... it is frustrating when everyone that wants to get into a game can't. I had a date for the Henderson game last year (homecoming) and the entire stadium was sold out. If it hadn't been for a stranger with an extra ticket, I might have had a crisis on my hands....lol. I had the same problem getting tickets for my dad to the Pine Tree game..... he didn't go because he didn't have a ticket. Same thing happened in 2006 when we went to Whitehouse. Now..... RUMOR has it..... that there are plans for some more improvements at Maverick Stadium. Included in that is a visitors locker room on the visitor's side. Also.... expanding the home side so that the band, mavettes, and pep squads will be on the home side. That would add about 2,000 seats for the visitors and would give them right about 5,000 seats. But who knows when that MAY happen. |

we are playing at pinetree? we might as well play at judson... that game should always be at longview, its 5 minutes up the road. home game for both teams
anyways.. longview just has to many fans to fit into their stadium

Not just Longview..... anyone in 13-4A has too many fans for PT's stadium.
The last 2 times we've played at PT....there has been almost as many Mav fans on the home side as there was PT fans. |
