VOTE YES!!!!!!!! | ||

I will vote to pass the bond, but I am hearing grumblings about the dollars from some people I know. It is a LOT of money, but also its money that our schools
need in a bad way. If not for some of our past school administrations, maybe our schools wouldn't be so bad off, but something has to be done and soon. If
it doesn't pass, then our enrollments will continue to decline.

The GREAT thing is that we are trying to pass a 260 + million dollar bond issue that we need desperately. Adding 8 new schools and additions to the high
school and 2 elementary schools. Spring Hill is trying to pass a 46 million dollar bond issue and it will actually cost their tax payers MORE per thousand
dollars in home values than our 260 + bond. LONG STORY SHORT.,,,,,,, $100 thousand dollar house in Longview versus the same ($ amount) house in
Springhill...... The new Tax Rate in Longview will actually be LESS than Springhill if both pass. Folks we are getting a WHOLE LOT for what our taxes will be
going up. Please get the word out that we MUST get this passed. Hallsville already stepped up to the plate as did Pine Tree. Spring Hills will pass. All of
longview area schools will have similar tax rates with all the bonds being issued. Look at what we'll get for LESS tax per 1000 dollars than Spring Hill!
It's amazing........ what a little perspective can do ....
Please vote yes for our kids in LISD |

Thw article has LHS' enrollment as 1,964. That's even lower than the number the UIL used for the alignment. I wonder where they came up with that
number. I know the enrollments always drop from the spring to the fall, but that's a heafty drop.
Having worked in several of the schools at LISD when I was in college with the after school programs, there is no doubt that LISD is in dire need of new facilities, especially for the elementary schools..... but I think a bond that big is going to be a tough sell...... just like Tyler's was back in the day. I work in Longview and most of the ppl I work with pay taxes to LISD, but do not send their children there, and they have no intentions of voting yes. I have no clue how common that is in Longview, but it happens a lot where I work. If the bond fails, then LISD needs to keep trying. Keep trimming until they get it passed. Best of luck to LISD.....I think it's a good proposal, but it will be a tough sell to the taxpayers. |

mavchamp,
considering we have 3 school districts in the city limits, and all take transfers, that is not surprising at all........a no-brainer really |

Actually, I don't think Spring Hill takes transfers. You have to live in the district to attend there, unless your parent/parents work for SHISD. I may be
wrong, but I think I had a couple of Sprin Hill people tell me that a while back.

I too know people that live in Longview but have chosen to send there kids elsewhere to school. Several of them I even went to school with (at LISD) and they
still chose to move there kids. It irritates me and my wife pretty badly too.

Saturday is an important day for LISD. Please go to the polls and vote for the bond election. These ACADEMIC proposals are very much needed ... and will only
cost millions of dollars more if we delay any further. This election will determine the future of LISD -- and the city of Longview.
