I'm glad the issue passed (the new facilities are really needed). But it's a real shame that only 3,090 taxpayers took the time to go to the polls in a bond election that was so important to the future of LISD and the city of Longview.

Athletically speaking, Longview has the best facilities in East Texas...esp for football and basketball. The bond will now allow the campuses to catch up. The low turnout is astounding for such a huge bond. Marshall ISD had no bonds, just a school board election, and had 3,199 votes come in. Congrats again!!!

Posts: 199 (05/12/08 08:22:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Here's a pretty amazing fact: Only 3,090 taxpayers voted in Saturday's LISD bond election ... out of some 36,000 registered voters in the district. What that means is only one in 12 eligible voters went to the polls to decide a $266.9-million issue. I was thrilled to see the bond election passed (if only by a narrow margin). But what does it say for the future of LISD with so many APATHETIC residents? What do you want to bet that all these folks who didn't bother to vote will be the first ones to scream when their taxes go up.

I vote whenever I can, no matter how "insignificant" one vote is. Glad to hear the bond passed. It was much needed.
