New lighting for Lobo Stadium in 2008? ... |

I understand that at Monday's booster club meeting there was discussion of new lighting being in place at Lobo Stadium for the 2008 season. Can someone
provide information on this? I also am told that the new chairback seats will indeed be installed on the stadium's home side, too.

Are they adding any additional seating to Lobo stadium. Seems like adding chair backs will make the seating capacity smaller on the home side.

this is adding up quickly.....the scoreboard i am sure will be 400-500k. The chairbacks, if its happening, i am sure will not be cheap. Add new lighting on top
of that and they are probably getting close to putting $1 million into the stadium.

Easily $1 million at that.

I'm told the additional end zone seating will not happen for 2008. Perhaps will be in place for 2009. Just guessing but it looks like you could add
1,000 to 1,500 additional seats toward the "LOBOS" shrubbery.

I would guess around 2 ,250 could be added. I say go ahead and make the stadium a horseshoe. The stadium would look off balance with a half horseshoe. Lobo
would seat around 15,000 with the extra seats on both sides of the bushes.

We're not adding them now around the hill. We're adding another section on the visitor's side. That'll leave the visitors 4 sections (maybe 5),
and a lot for our students, band, viewettes, etc. Thing is, the students hardly ever fill their section, so I see no reason to add another section for them.
If we have capacity problems (which I'm sure we will against Marshall and Texas High) we might add even more. |

when i was in high school the student side was packed....may not every game but most games....well at least in 96 and 97
i really dont see the need to make it a horshoe....sure it would look good but it would never be full......adding seats to the south end would be more than enough |

Yeah... Last season was disappointing.
A complete horseshoe wouldn't fill, but another section or two will, especially for the Marshall and Texas High games (which will likely draw attendance of fans of other teams). |

Yeah, Odessa Permian built that Ratliff Stadium, and it's bare save a game or two a year.
There's no need for a 20,000 person stadium. I do see attendance going up in 4A. If there are capacity problems, that means we're selling tons of tickets and we'll expand. If there are no capacity problems, there's no need to expand. The only times I can remember Lobo Stadium being close to full over the past few years were 2004 Tyler Lee, 2005 John Tyler (Yeah, thousands showed up to see a 28 point blowout), 2006 Marshall, 2006 John Tyler, and 2007 Lufkin. The only time any of those games saw actual capacity overflow was 2005 John Tyler. So we'd pretty much be in that same boat as Odessa if we expanded our stadium right now; have tons of empty room for most games, and a game or two a year, almost fill the stadium. It would look pretty neat (a horseshoe), and would be something to brag about (largest high school stadium), but wouldn't be necessary at this point. I hope it becomes necessary as we move to 4A and see more attendance.
