1. Is the first string O' line struggling - or -
Is the defense just that good?
2. Is there going to be a QB controversy again this year - or -
Is Aaron Johnson going to pull it together?
3. And lastly: Who was the tall outside receiver who extended knowing he was going to be hit?
(He seemed to be one of the few with reliable hands.)

1. I think a little of both. The defensive line IS stout. The offensive line is facing a few injuries, and the lack of a left tackle at the moment. (I
don't think anyone has the left tackle position yet... It's anyone's game).
2. I thought Aaron calmed down and threw well after the first few bad passes? He made some very good throws, but passes were dropped as well. Like any other player, if he doesn't perform, he'll be replaced... 3. Not sure who that was, but he looked good. The others seemed to get alligator arms in there when they heard footsteps. I think our main receiver was out due to injury as well. It always seems like people get these little injuries during Spring Training. It's been happening since I was a freshman. Some just don't want to do the spring practices if it doesn't mean playing in a game. |

just like almost any other years the offense did not look good at all, this early. A few things to remeber:
1) it was an unusual spring training. they missed a full week due to various circumstances 2) they had a player/friend critically injured which i am ssure ahs been a major distraction....and rightly so the defense looks very good....could be the best we have had in a while...they look deep too. i think they have the tools on offense to be good....maybe not as good as i initially thought but they will be solid if they fill the oline and run the right type of offense. |

I think Petey and Clisle make some really good points. This was an unusual spring with injuries, the weather, etc. It looks like the defense is going to be
salty in 2008. I believe the offense will be good once we get over spring injuries and the coaches get everybody plugged in to their positions. I am
encouraged by what I saw in Friday's green-white game.

Aye. We weren't plagued with TOO many injuries, and there were some mistakes as there always are in a Spring Game. I'm hoping the OL can pull together
as a unit and play better in the fall, and that Aaron polishes himself off as well. The defense usually immediately gels, and the offense takes a bit to start
clicking. It's been the same for as long as I can remember.
Remember, in 2004 there wasn't a single point scored in the Spring Game? And then that fall, the offense was so explosive with Vondrell rushing for 2000+ yards and 27 or so TDs and Chris Ivory rushing for a bit as well. Not to mention Carlin throwing for and Malcolm receiving for quite a few yards and TDs. The point I'm making is this: A spring game is NOT indicative of how a team will perform in the fall. Some grow up a LOT during the summer and early fall. I forgot as well that there was almost a complete week of practices missed due to weather and D'Mio's injury. |

Good point Petey. I saw Vondrell during the Green/White game and noticed how much he had developed
physically since High School. And when you brought up Malcom and Carlin - the point became clear: While physical growth will continue throughout the
off-season, a successful team needs a coherent blending of talent. So I guess that is the question I should be asking.

There will be a wonderful defense, but the offense isn't coming together like one would like from what I can tell. No fullback has stepped it up, so
we've been having to go to the spread where we don't have a third receiver who can motion into the backfield. That and one of the two tackle positions
is having trouble being filled as well.
We have to hope that someone will step up and fill these positions between now and August. If not, we may be relying on our defense to carry us through games. The defensive line has amazing athletes. |
